Live the Moment?
Seize the moment!
A slogan often used by the lovers of life. Actually it is a meaningless slogan. None of us, without any psychological disorder such as masochism or similar deviations, would like to live fully a present moment of sorrow, pain, discomfort, fear, or suffering… Surely the language used in that slogan is wrong. Most likely what is meant is to live the present pleasures, and to seize them!
If that is the case, then we are faced with two possibilities:
We are able to find pleasures that we can fully enjoy alone and whenever we feel like it. Or, if this is not possible or sufficient, and it usually isn’t, then …
We are set to find the people who appreciate the same pleasures as we do and want to live them, with us, at the same time.
There is no doubt that both options are big challenges to overcome!
Lucky are the ones whose pleasures lie solely within them. With little intelligence they will live forever satisfied. Alone and/but satisfied!
Unlucky are the ones whose pleasures depend on few other souls and bodies that have to share with them the same joys, at the same time. No matter how hard they try, they will live forever unsatisfied. Surrounded by people and/but unsatisfied.
A popular Lebanese saying sums this topic up very well: “life is a carrot, one day in your hand and ten days in your a..”. It does have a double motivational effect for enjoying the present pleasures:
When the carrot is in your hand (good times) you need to eat from it as much as possible, enjoying thus the most of the good moments
Doing that will ensure that when the bad times come (carrot in you're a..), there will be as little as possible, from the carrot, remaining!
The quest for the pleasurable moments and the fun people to share them with continues. It will always be the best pretext to carry on in a rather absurd life!
